Sonja Horlacher (b.1984) grew up in Eutin, in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park situated in Northern Germany. She graduated in flute at Musik Hochschule Lübeck in the class of Prof. Angela Firkins. Her wide musical interests brought her to study also baroque repertoire on original instruments as well as improvisation.
She did a specialized Master in contemporary music performance at the
Musik-Akademie of Basel under the guidance of Prof. Mike Svoboda, Markus Weiss and Jürg Henneberger.
In 2012 she was selected for a one year scholarship from IEM (International Ensemble Modern Accademy) in Frankfurt.
Sonja has premiered many pieces for flutes and worked with composers like Peter Ablinger, Georg F. Haas, Bernhard Lang, Brian Ferneyhough, Manfred Stahnke, Nikolaus A. Huber.
She was invited to perform with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Resonance, Ensemble ICTUS, Ensemble Garage and unassisted fold in several festivals in Europe, among others: Donaueschinger Musiktage, Lucerne Festival, Ruhrtriennale, Crescendo Festival, Curva minore contemporary sounds, Acht Brücken, Festival Rümlingen.
She is appearing in records published by labels “col-legno”, “Ensemble Modern Medien” und Limit cycle records.
